Manchester City fear Bunny Shaw will miss the rest of the Women’s Super League title run amid concerns she broke her foot during the 5-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

The club have yet to confirm Mail Sport’s information, but we understand that Shaw, who was seen on crutches and wearing a protective boot after the game, has done more damage than first feared.

The striker went down in the final seconds of the first half and was helped off the pitch by City’s medical team and replaced by Chloe Kelly.

The 27-year-old is City’s top scorer with 21 goals in 18 games and she will be a huge loss to Gareth Taylor’s side in the final three games of the season.

City are currently top of the WSL, three points clear of Chelsea, who have a game in-hand, and Shaw’s absence will put a huge dent in their title challenge.

City boss Gareth Taylor had initially been optimistic about Shaw’s injury after the game.

‘We decided not to take the risk, it was touch and go as to whether she was going to come back on the pitch,’ Taylor said.

‘We’ll get a bit more of an assessment tomorrow. She’s on crutches, which looks bad, but most of the players end up being offloaded in that situation.

‘We’ll just have to assess it. If it’s more serious than we anticipate, then we’ll deal with it.’

City do not have many No 9 options to replace Shaw with. Lauren Hemp is capable of playing in that role while Chloe Kelly is another option, but both players’ natural positions are on the wing.

Mary Fowler is another option along with Poppy Pritchard, who was signed in January.

City face Bristol City, Arsenal and Aston Villa in their final three games of the season.
