Diego Carlos breaks silence on the decision to cancel Disasi’s last goal

Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos has taken to social media to break silence on the controversial decision to disallow Axel Disasi’s goal for Chelsea at Villa Park.

The Blues were trailing 2-0 at half-time but were impressive in the second period and goals from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher levelled things up.

Substitute Disasi thought he had won the game for the Blues in the closing mintues, heading in from a Benoit Badiashile cross.

However, Badiashile was adjudged to have fouled Carlos in the build-up to the goal, with the referee advised to complete an on-field check.

The decision left Chelsea players fuming as they surrounded the referee at full-time, with Madueke dragged away by his team-mates.

Taking to social media, Carlos replied to Match of the Day on Instagram as they asked: ‘Right decision? A last-gasp Chelsea winner was ruled out because of a foul by Benoit Badiashile.’

Carlos responded: ‘If that wasn’t a foul, I don’t know what was!’

Chelsea boss Pochettino was furious with the decision.

He slammed VAR in his post-match press conference, stating: ‘I don’t want to talk bad about the referee, but it is unbelievable, it’s ridiculous.

‘It is really painful as it has damaged English football, the image, and even Aston Villa players and the fans didn’t understand why.

‘He (the referee) said it was a foul and if you see the challenge, it is a challenge. If every single challenge like this is a foul, we won’t finish with 11 players in any game.’

The point saw Aston Villa extend their lead in fourth place to seven points over Spurs, while Chelsea sit in ninth place.

The Blues have two games in hand on West Ham, who are one point ahead of them, and one match in hand on Man United and Newcastle in the European places.
