Arsenal could lose wonderkid who scored 10 goals against Liverpool due to contract loophole

Arsenal prodigy Chido Obi-Martin is being courted by Bayern Munich and could be lured away from the Emirates before he is eligible to sign professional terms.

Obi-Martin, 16, has made headlines with a number of remarkable goal hauls for Arsenal’s academy teams this year. He plundered 10 goals in a single match for the Under-16s against Liverpool earlier in the campaign and struck seven times in a 9-0 win for the U18s against Norwich City just last weekend.

The talented teenager is rated highly at Hale End and Arsenal are currently in talks with Obi-Martin’s representatives over a deal which would see him commit his future to the club when he turns 17 later this year.

While English clubs are prevented from signing players to professional deals before then due to Football Association regulations, other European nations are not bound by those same restrictions – leaving Arsenal vulnerable.

A new report from The Telegraph has outlined that Obi-Martin has suitors across Europe due to his remarkable goalscoring exploits. Bayern Munich are one of said admirers, although it is not yet clear if the German giants are planning to formalise their interest.

Obi-Martin has played for both England and Denmark at junior level. He left Denmark at the age of 14 to join the Gunners from Kjobenhavns Boldklub, and the Londoners are keen to keep hold of him due to his impressive development.

While he is already attracting interest, Obi-Martin recently stated that he would like to remain at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.

The youngster – who is signed up with Elite Project Group, the same agency which represents Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah – told Bold.dk earlier this month: “I would like to stay at Arsenal for a long time. It’s a good club, I can feel that I’m getting much better in training.

“There are a lot of good people and good coaches, so I’m really happy to be there. Maybe I will have to play permanently at U21 from next season. There aren’t that many strikers in the squad so it will be a good opportunity for me.

“Arsenal is a club that gives young talents the opportunity to play.”
