Leicester parade the Championship trophy in front of thousands in bus parade

Leicester have marked their Championship success with an open-top bus parade through the city.

After suffering relegation from the Premier League on the final day of last season, the club appointed former Parma boss Enzo Maresca as they looked to bounce back at the first time of asking.

The Foxes stormed to an incredible start in the second tier, suffering just three defeats before Christmas which included a run of nine-consecutive victories between September and October.

After picking up where they left off in the new year, the club began to falter in February and were knocked off the top spot following a run that saw them pick up just ten points from a possible thirty heading into April.

However, the club again rebounded with three back-to-back wins with Leeds’ defeat against QPR last week confirming their promotion.

Victory against Preston days later secured the league title, and even defeat to Blackburn on the final day of the season failed to dampen the club’s celebrations.

Travelling in an open-top bus adorned with the words ‘straight back up’, the players and staff travelled through jubilant scenes in the East Midlands city.

Fans flocked to pay tribute to the team, as Jamie Vardy led celebrations at the front of the bus alongside chairman Aiyawatt  Srivaddhanaprabha, Marc Albrighton and summer signing Harry Winks.

The bus also included a portrait of the club’s late owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who tragically died in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium following a game in 2018.

In a video from the club’s official X account, Ghanian winger Abdul Fatawu could be seen waving to fans whilst remarking: ‘We are outside, the champions are outside.’

The Foxes will be joined in the Premier League next season by Ipswich Town, who secured automatic promotion on the final day of the season thanks to a 21-0 win against Huddersfield.

The Tractor Boys have spent 22-years outside of the top flight but enjoyed a remarkable campaign under Kieran McKenna that saw them become the first club to clinch back-to-back promotions from the third tier to the Premier League since Southampton in 2012.

The final day drama ensured that Leeds will have to go through the play-offs if they are to also bounce straight back after suffering the drop last season.

Daniel Farke’s side will face Norwich in a bid to reach the play-off final at Wembley later this month, while Southampton will take on West Brom.
