Arsenal news: Transfer targets confirmed as Arteta suffers Man Utd injury worry

Arsenal have less than 14 days until they discover whether they are Premier League champions.

They must be perfect to end their season and defeat Manchester United and Everton to close out an impressive year. Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta and co, Manchester City hold a game in hand and can yet displace the Gunners at the top of the table.

Arsenal’s rivals play first this coming weekend and will hope to pile on the pressure with a victory over Fulham. It changes little for the north London side who know only wins now matter.

The Gunners can only focus on themselves and what comes next, though with the summer soon arriving, that cannot be ignored. With that said Mirror Football takes a look at some of the latest Arsenal news.

Transfer hint

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has hinted he could leave the club after helping his side to the Portuguese title.

Gyokeres, has thrived since his £17million switch from Coventry last summer, netting 27 goals in 31 league games in addition to providing 10 assists. The Sweden international has drawn up a whole host of admirers including Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Sporting are said to only be prepared to sell him for his €100m (£86m) release clause but the forward admitted he could not promise to remain in Portugal’s capital

“It’s football, I can’t promise anything,” Gyokeres said, “I have a contract and I won’t be sad if I stay, I’m very happy, but we’ll see what happens. We can’t predict much, but let’s see what next year will be like, we still have games this season.”

Injury worry

Takehiro Tomiyasu’s availability could be in doubt for Arsenal’s trip to Old Trafford this weekend.

Training footage of Arsenal on Tuesday did not show the defender at London Colney. The Japan international completed 90 minutes in a comfortable Arsenal win over Bournemouth but was not spotted among his teammates in preparation for Manchester United.

Bukayo Saka was present for the session but saw strapping across his leg. The winger cut his shin against the Cherries but has remained in training after being subsituted at the Emirates as Arsenal coasted to victory.

Jurrien Timber continued his comeback and could yet be involved in a match day squad before the end of the season. The Dutchman has completed minutes for the under-21 side after picking up an injury on the opening day of the Premier League season but missed out on the squad for Bournemouth.

Two targets ‘confirmed’

Despite being home to the best defence in the Premier League, Arsenal are set to attempt to strengthen their options in at the back. LondonWorld suggest two players shortlisted have been ‘confirmed’ as Ajax’s Jorred Hato and Nice central defence Jean-Clair Todibo.

Hato, 18, has been a consistent star in a difficult season for the Dutch giants and can play at left-back, a position that has proven problematic for the Gunners. The youngster broke into the team 12 months ago and has not looked back on his way to 45 appearances this term.

Arsenal may face stiff competition for Todibo, who has been linked with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea already. A £40m fee has been touted for the Frenchman who could depart Nice this summer.
