De Gea trains in Man United gear as his search for a new club continues

David de Gea shared a video of him staying sharp in his old Manchester United training gear on Thursday afternoon.

The former Old Trafford favourite was taking on shot-stopping and reflexes drills with three coaches.

De Gea, 33, was released by United last July and replaced by Andre Onana after 12 seasons as their first-choice goalkeeper.

He has been a free agent all season but has vowed to get back into the mix and recently posted from Altrincham’s training ground, saying: ‘I’ll be back.’

In a further video, which showed him engaged in catching drills, shot-stopping and claiming crosses, De Gea left the caption: ‘We remember. We rebuild. We come back stronger’.

The two-time Golden Glove winner had reportedly resolved to stay in Spain and hold out for a LaLiga offer earlier this year, but his return to England suggests a more open mind.

Mail Sport reported in December that Newcastle were interested in him due to Nick Pope’s long-term injury, but would have required him to take a wage cut.

His final deal at United saw him taking home £375,000 per week.

He kept 17 clean sheets in his final season, three more than his nearest competitors, but there was no resolution to a contract standoff.

The Spaniard won five major honours with United, including the Premier League in 2013, and was named the club’s player of the year.

However, he was released and the club reportedly promoted Marcus Rashford up to the wage that had been occupied by De Gea.

His replacement, Onana, who signed from Inter Milan for £47million, admitted he questioned his decision to join.

‘It was really hard, he told MUTV. ‘But it’s the first time I faced such a situation.’

‘Now I know the league, I know the people, I know the country, I know Manchester – okay, Rainchester!

‘When I look back now, I’m just smiling because it was a big lesson for me. But in the beginning I was like, ‘Wow, did I make the right choice?’

‘But I’m definitely 100 per cent sure I made the right choice because Manchester United is the bigger club in this country, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.

‘Who would say no to come to play for this beautiful club?’
