PLAYER RATINGS: Who was the Three Lions’ WORST performer?

England fell to a limp 1-0 defeat by Brazil after Endrick’s late winner at Wembley.

The friendly, the Three Lions’ first in the build-up to Euro 2024 this summer, looked set to end in a goalless draw before the teenage sensation touched home.

Vinicius Junior broke in behind after a loose clearance and after Jordan Pickford denied the forward, Endrick was on hand to pounce on the rebound and finish.

The loss was a first in 21 games for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Here, Mail Sport’s CRAIG HOPE and MATT BARLOW have rated both teams…

ENGLAND (4-2-3-1)

Jordan Pickford 6

Decent early save from Rodrygo but kicking was a little suspect on occasion, which is unlike him. Unfortunate for late goal.

Kyle Walker 6

Skipper lasted only 20 minutes after injuring hamstring. Best contribution was goal-line recovery to deny Vinicius Junior a goal.

John Stones 6

England’s best defender until the moment of Vinicius getting the wrong side of him, leading to Brazil’s winner.

Harry Maguire 6

Took armband from Walker but was lucky when his mistake was not punished as Raphinha dragged wide before break. Recovered and did well enough.

Ben Chilwell 4.5

Fluffed two chances to score in first half and sliced another cross straight out of play, drawing groans from Wembley crowd. Did not take chance to impress on a difficult night.

Declan Rice 6.5

Did not offer the protective shield he usually does at times and Brazil broke beyond England’s midfield on a couple of occasions. Tidy on ball, though.

Conor Gallagher 5

Saw lots of the ball – some good, some bad – and was out-foxed a couple of times leading to Brazil attacks. Does not have the grace of Bellingham. Must do better.

Phil Foden 6.5

Bright, busy and looked a threat when getting into positions of promise but end product, this time, was lacking.

Jude Bellingham 7.5

Took a little while to get into game but, when he did, England immediately improved. He is so evidently his team’s best player.

Anthony Gordon 7

Linked well with Bellingham and was unlucky to see goal-bound curler deflected wide. Soon tested keeper with similar effort and was purposeful. Euros prospects enhanced.

Ollie Watkins 5.5

Stabbed over from close range in first half – it was a difficult chance – but just does not look the same player in an England shirt as he does in the Premier League.

Subs

Ezri Konsa (on for Walker, 20) 6.5

Jarrod Bowen (on for Bellingham, 67) 6.5

Joe Gomez (on for Chilwell, 67) 6

Lewis Dunk (on for Maguire, 67) 5

Kobbie Mainoo (on for Gallagher 75) 6

Marcus Rashford (on for Gordon 75) 5.5

Manager – Gareth Southgate 6

This was not the performance he would have wanted and the absence of Kane and Saka was telling in final third. His team did not look like Euro 2024 favourites here.

BRAZIL (4-2-3-1)

Bento 6

Clean sheet for the Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper on his debut but rarely extended.

Danilo 6

Cafu he is not, but astute and dependable, and led rookie back four well.

Fabricio Bruno 7

Flamengo centre half shackled Watkins without fuss.

Lucas Beraldo 6.5

Another composed international debut from the PSG centre half.

Wendell 6

The Porto left back on his debut was solid at the back against Foden. Rarely tried to get forward.

Bruno Guimaraes 6.5

Slick on the ball, kept possession ticking over.

Joao Gomes 6

Wolves midfielder did not look out of place on his debut.

Raphinha 5

Missed a glorious chance, dragging wide after pouncing on Maguire slip.

Lucas Paqueta 7.5

Sublime on the ball, aggressive off it. Upset the home crowd. Hit the post.

Vinicius Junior 8

Always dangerous, threatening on the break, made the goal with a burst clear.

Rodrygo 6.5

Caused England problems with his movement.

Subs

Richarlison (for Paqueta 70) 6

Endrick (for Rodrygo 70) – teenage sensation with a goal and another record. 7

Douglas Luiz
