Aaron Ramsdale told to leave Arsenal to be ‘number one’ at Prem rivals after being ‘mugged off’ by Mikel Arteta

AARON RAMSDALE has been urged to leave Arsenal in the summer.

Premier League legend Andy Cole believes that the England international has been “mugged off” by manager Mikel Arteta.

Ramsdale, 25, was the Gunners’ first-choice goalkeeper last season but was replaced in the summer.

Arteta opted to sign David Raya on an initial loan deal from Brentford, and he has since replaced the Englishman.

The manager originally claimed that the two stoppers would be rotated but Raya has become the undisputed first-choice.

Cole, 52, believes that Ramsdale should seek pastures new this summer and has suggested that Newcastle could be a good move.

Cole told Betfred: “Nine times out of ten, when a player moves to a different club, they’re meant to be their new club’s number one centre-forward, centre-half, goalkeeper or whatever it may be.

“If Aaron makes the move, he will be Newcastle’s number one goalkeeper.

“I think he’s been hard done by, I really do.

“He was so good for Arsenal last season and then all of a sudden, Mikel Arteta has gone out and got a new goalkeeper and initially claimed that he had two number ones, which was complete nonsense from day one.

“The way he’s disregarded Ramsdale has been really disrespectful.

“He’s mugged him off basically.

“I like how he goes about his business and he deserves to be treated with a bit more respect, so if he does move on from Arsenal, then he certainly would do a good job at Newcastle.”

Ramsdale has only made 11 appearances in all competitions this season.

He has kept three clean sheets and conceded 12 goals in that time.

Raya is expected to become a permanent Arsenal player in the summer.

Meanwhile, Arteta has told Ramsdale to wait until summer to have discussions about his future.

He said: “Now is the season, now is tomorrow, now is what we have done today and how can we improve tomorrow.

“And those talks are for much after, I think.”
